SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) integrates personal computer (PC), programmable logic controller (PLC), human machine interface (HMI) and instrumentation such that users can monitor, control and acquire data of processes in offices or control rooms only.

Due to SCADA's open software architecture system, a lot of other software, such as CAD, Visual basic, DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange) programs: document processing, data processing and etc., can be integrated into a whole control system. In the USA, SCADA system is applied in many industries to replace traditional DCS (Distribution Control System).
